Museu de Arte Moderna

The Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, MAM-SP, was founded in 1948 by Italian-Brazilian entrepreneur Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho. Early on, the MAM was recognized as an important cultural institution of the city of São Paulo, with a significant collection of modern and contemporary Brazilian art. The museum lost its original collection in 1963, when Matarazzo donated it to the MAC-USP. Today the museum has a collection of 4500 pieces dating from the 1950s to today.

The objective of the museum is to spread new trends, and to promote national and international artists through exhibitions, publications and courses. The MAM offers various experiences within its walls; exhibition halls, a library, a space for film projections, an artisan school and art history courses.
